Junior Megan Bengtson shyly enters room W20 for the first time. She is one of the 48 interested in joining the baking club.
Room W20 was filled with many other prospective members standing in the back of the room for the first baking club meeting.
“This is the most amount of students we have ever had interested,” said Samantha Conover, the Baking Club adviser.
The club will have to restrict the number of members to only 25. These are selected by the 25 five who return their signup sheets first.
“We capped the membership to 25 because there are only five kitchens and we want only a group of five at each kitchen,” said Yazmine Dominguez, Baking Club president.
Topics discussed at the meeting included what they would be baking this month as well as t-shirt designs.
A handful of members have returned from last year.
“Baking club has given me the chance to be a leader and it has taught me to bake,” said Dominguez. “Before baking club, I did not know how to bake anything.”
