“Frostblood” flourishes

Frostblood+flourishes

In Tempesia, the Frostblood, people with the ability to control ice, rule. Because of the Frost King, the ruler of Tempesia, almost all of the Firebloods, people with the ability to control fire, have been killed. The rest of the Firebloods live in the homeland of Firebloods, Sudesia, except for Ruby.

Ruby is a 17-year-old girl who practices her Fireblood ability against her mother’s wishes. While she is practicing one day, she sees Frostblood soldiers coming towards her town. She and her mom are brought into the middle of the town where a fight breaks out. Ruby’s mom dies, and Ruby is sent to prison.

Five months later, Ruby is rescued from the prison by Frostblood monks and a mysterious man named Arcus. She is soon thrown into a plot to kill the king, and she has to be the one to do it. But first, she has to learn how to control her powers.

“Frostblood” by Elly Blake follows Ruby as she trains with Arcus and the monks. This book constantly had me on the edge of my seat. There is action from the first chapter all the way to the last page.

I could not put down “Frostblood”. The characters were well-developed, the plot was enticing, and there was a little bit of romance.

I really like the mystery surrounding Arcus, one of the people who saved Ruby from the prison. He is constantly changing and is also fighting his own internal battle alongside Ruby.

Ruby is also not the perfect character. She is very emotional and has a lot of resentment towards the Frost King, as well as any Frostblood. However, Ruby soon develops a friendship with all of the people she trains with.

I would recommend this book, as well as the rest of the series, to anyone who likes “Red Queen”, “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, or “Throne of Glass”, or anyone who likes the fantasy genre.

“Frostblood” is Blake’s first book. It was released on Jan. 10, 2017. There are two more books in the series: “Fireblood” and “Nightblood.” However, “Nightblood” does not come out until June 5.
