A Night for “Rhapsody in Blue”

It was a night to remember on Saturday, April 28. Huntley High School’s 2018 Prom, “Rhapsody in Blue,” created a magical evening for almost all who attended.

The dance was held at the Westin Northwest Chicago-Itasca, with students arriving at 5 p.m. for the Promenade at 5:20 p.m. then making their way to the buses.

However, there were some small hitches in the evening. Two buses never made it to the school, meaning that some students had to take school buses to and from the venue.

According to Senior Class Representative Brooke Wold, students were able to check their emails for information.

“[They] will be refunded for transportation funds,” Wold said. “I’m so sorry for anyone this happened to.”

Once the students arrived, however, everything went on without trouble. A dinner of chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetables or a pasta vegetarian option was served. Dessert was delicious with caramel crumb cake or fruit as the options.

After dinner, students moved from the atrium to the ballroom where photo booths were set up for them to take pictures.

When it came time for the crowning of Prom king and queen, seniors Lukas Bolas and Zoe Zuzzio were named the winners. However, Zuzzio had gone home early before the announcement, as she was suffering from a concussion she received in a soccer game that week.

“I thought for sure it wasn’t going to be me, but I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the way home,” Zuzzio said. “My phone completely blew up with texts.”

English teacher Lauren Teeter accepted the crown on her behalf in a light-hearted moment.

The night ended at 11 p.m. with students making their way back on the coach buses, and while some buses took a slight detour in a nearby residential area, everyone arrived home safely.

At the end of the night, even though their feet and bodies were sore, students went home with memories to last a lifetime.
