During many lunch periods, kids pile into the bathrooms. There is a long line out the door, and when people walk in, they place their backpacks against their stall door to keep it from opening on them.
This precaution is taken because the locks are broken.
Having a bathroom with working locks is so important for a high school, or really any other bathroom in public. It should be a surprise that the bathrooms at this school are dirty and broken.
“This has been an issue for many months, and it is difficult to understand why it is not a priority,” junior Cara Saulog said.
Each bathrooms always has a few broken locks, and some are completely missing doors. It should be the school’s top priority to make sure the bathrooms are sanitary and useable for students and staff members alike.
“The school needs to spend less money on useless things so they can fix important things around the school,” junior Mercy Adenyi said.
No student should have to worry about whether or not their stall door will open when they are in there. Many completely avoid using the stalls with broken locks all together, and this causes there to be one less stall to use, which is especially bad during crowded lunch periods.
No student should have to hold the door closed for another student or prop their backpack on the dirty floor to keep the door from swinging open because it has a broken lock. If the schools want to improve the bathroom situation, they should buy new doors and locks for every stall.
“The school needs to fix this issue so it’s easier to access,” junior Taryn Keegan said.
Many other students have complained about this situation, and it is a topic that has been brought up at Principal Student Leadership Council meetings.
Hopefully a change will be made this year to provide safer a bathroom conditions throughout the school.
