In the field house this Sunday, family and friends packed the bleachers for the Huntley High School’s annual March Madness tournament. After hours of intense competition, the team “Dave Rysavy” won and claimed their place at the top of this year’s bracket.
The first and second-place teams were filled with players from the school’s varsity Basketball Team, raising the steaks for all competitors.
“I liked how excited everyone was this year,” junior and Student Council member Denise Tawoy said. “The teams were all good sports, and the energy in the room made the event more enjoyable.”
The yearly tournament, organized by Student Council, has become a big part of the school spirit in March. This year’s competition did not disappoint, drawing a large turnout of people eager to watch how the games went down.
As the teams hit the court, people noticed some of the creative outfits players wore.
“The first thing I noticed were the teams’ outfits,” junior Olivia Liberty said. “It was funny walking in to see a bunch of guys with white and red striped pants.”
Earlier rounds were filled with intense matchups of teams, all trying to secure their spot in the finals. As the competition narrowed, the crowd only grew more anxious to see who would win.
Student Council president Abby Rybicki expressed her excitement about the success of the event.
“When you’re getting events started and going, it’s always tough because you get anxious if there’s gonna be a large turnout,” Rybicki said. “We got a big turnout and a lot of basketball members coming to play for a second year in a row.”
The final buzzer finally marked the end of another exciting March Madness, leaving many people excited for the next event Student Council has planned.
