On a Monday afternoon, sounds of harmonies and symphonies sweep the PAC at Huntley High school. Students were dressed in all black, holding spruce, maple, and oak violins fill the theater with beautiful music. The violin bows move together in an orderly manner, leading the audience to bring their hands together and cheer.
On Monday, March 10, there was an orchestra concert which took place at the PAC in HHS.
The director of this orchestra performance was Jeffrey Rollins and the student teacher, who performed some songs was Osian Braslavsky. There were three types of different orchestras that played during the concert. The first was a Concert Orchestra which played songs such as “Legends of Glory” by Kathryn Griesinger, “Power Shift” by Kathryn Griesinger, “To Be or Not to Be” by Katie O’Hara LaBrie, and “Momentum” by Richard Meyer.
Some of the performers had favorite songs that made them the artist they were today.
“My favorite piece I ever played was ‘Boreas,’ [since] I thought that one was really fun,” Symphonic Orchestra player Jamie Kruk said.
The next group was the Philharmonic Orchestra which played “Aspire, A Dream Fulfilled” by Bob Phillips. They also played four more songs in a series called “A Wisconsin Tableau” by Carrie Lane Gruselle.
All of the students came from different experiences of how they got into playing their instrument.
“My parents wanted me to do it and they originally wanted me to play a band instrument, but I thought that strings were more fun,” Symphonic Orchestra player Dana Lauinger said.
Then the next group after that was the Symphonic Orchestra, which only played songs by Mozart, such as “Allegro,” “Romanze,” “Menuetto,” and “Rondo.”
Many of the performers wish to continue playing in their futures.
“I still want to continue playing in college and maybe after college,” Symphonic Orchestra player Karolina Zastawny said. “I also want to work maybe in the music industry.”
