On Oct. 30, Huntley High School opened its doors to families, friends, and students for its annual Spooky Buddies Night. A night filled with costumes, candy, and community spirit.
Each year, Spooky Buddies turns the high school into a trick-or-treat maze, with classrooms transformed by clubs, teams, and student organizations into festive themed stations. From spooky games to colorful decorations, the event invites the younger children in the community to explore the halls of HHS, collect candy, and get in the holiday spirit.
Each participating group brought its own flair, whether it meant candy, costumes, interactive experiences, or creative decorations. The Zoology club was a standout to many visitors, offering a chance to meet and pet animals up close.
“The coolest thing I saw was that we could pet some of the animals from the Zoology Club,” junior Emma Viravec said.
The spirit that many students brought into making Spooky Buddies didn’t go unnoticed. With extravagantly decorated rooms, to creative costumes.
“The coolest thing was Tyler [Barrus’] bird costume and the Candy Land room,” junior Sophia Gounaris said.
While the night was packed with fun, students also found meaning behind the festivities.
“It brings young kids in to see the clubs and the students, and it allows parents to tour the school as well,” junior Ezra Gruendemann said. “It also gives high school students a chance to get volunteer time.”
By the end of the night, the halls were filled with laughter, sugar-filled excitement, and plenty of photos to remember it by. Though each club’s decorations came down before the next day, the spirit of the event still carried on. A reminder that sometimes the best way to bring people together is through a little creativity, a lot of candy, and a touch of Halloween spirit.
