Senior athletes from Huntley High School’s girls’ track team lined up on Monday, April 20 for senior recognition, during which they were honored for their contributions to the team over the years.
“After years of seeing the seniors before me, getting recognized felt like a full-circle moment. It was bittersweet, but also so motivating to know how far I have come over the years,” said senior Addison Busam. “My favorite part of the night was seeing all of my fellow senior teammates surrounded by so much support and love. Every single athlete was supported and cheered for, and it truly made my night knowing they got the support they deserved.”
However, the team stretches beyond support and love; they are not only friends and teammates but also family, celebrating each other at their best and lifting each other up at their worst.
“I joined track in my sophomore year, and I can say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I became part of not only a team, but a family. These past years that I have been on track, I have learned what hard work and dedication look like. There are always going to be ups and downs, but all that matters is that I try my best,” said senior Ava Acevedo.
No matter the skill level or event, each girl shows up and gives her all, and then gives more to her teammates, cheering them to the finish line, win or lose.
“[My favorite memory with these girls is] getting to watch them perform. They compete incredibly hard, and there are some pretty accomplished athletes within our senior group. Conference champions, Sectional Champions, state qualifiers, and state medalists. They also know how to have a great time and keep it fun, as evidenced by many trips home from long meets,” said girls’ head track coach Jason Monson.
With the team’s dedication and passion that they pour into everything, no doubt that going into the post-season, the team will reach an abundance of success and bring back some more trophies for the case.
