It was 8:30 p.m on a monday night, and my parents were running a little late from work. My brother and I were hungry and were willing to eat anything they brought home for us.
We were happy and relieved when we saw them come home with takeout boxes. At the time, we did not care where the food was coming from…until we looked inside the boxes.
My family is strictly vegetarian so going out to eat could sometimes be a bit challenging for us. We need to make sure to order menu items with no meat, and then double check once we get our meals.
So when we opened the Taco Bell takeout box, we were a little angry when we found that the Doritos Locos Taco that we had ordered for my brother had meat in it. According to the menu, they do contain seasoned beef, but we had specifically ordered the tacos without the beef.
On top of that, my dad’s Fritos Burrito was nowhere to be found. Maybe there was some miscommunication along the road or maybe it was the woman taking our order’s first day on the job, but this is not the first time something like this has happened.
It was an August afternoon and our summer days of freedom and relaxation were numbered. My brother and I were (as always) hungry, and since it was our first time going there, we decided to stop by the Taco Bell on Randall Road.
We ate in and ordered two Doritos Locos Tacos, one with a cool ranch shell and one with a nacho cheese shell. My first impression of the restaurant was not a very good one.
The place was not very clean to begin with. I do not know if they were having a busy day or if there were not enough workers in that shift, but we had to table hop to find a table that did not have hot sauce and ground beef all over it.
But we did not mind the mess too much since it is a fast food restaurant. The thing that really turned me off was the overall service or lack thereof.
The cashier did not seem very welcoming. And no I was not expecting him to flash his biggest smile and ask about my day. It was the fact that he did not seem to care about the customers or that he just seemed unapproachable.
As we were waiting for our food, I looked out the window and noticed that there was a long line of cars parked in the drive thru lane. I did not really think much of it until I noticed that the same car had been parked in the same spot even after we were heading out.
So with the messy tables, unfriendly customer service, and a six flags wait time for the cars at the drive thru, we did not know what to expect with our food. Finally the moment of truth came and lo and behold, there’s meat in our tacos.
Luckily we were eating in that day, instead of ordering takeout like my parents did on that monday night. I was pleasantly surprised when we spoke to the manager. She was very apologetic and fixed our orders to be meat-free.
But overall, I would rather not go to Taco Bell unless it was the only option to satisfy our hunger. The service from the manager was probably the only good thing about it, despite the fact that we got that service right after they got our orders wrong.
