I ranked the top teams in the MLB so far this season.

  1. San Francisco Giants – With the Giants winning their last 14 out of 15 games, the Giants have catapulted to the top of the NL West, leading the Dodgers by 4.5 games. With this being an even year, the stakes are high for the Giants to win the World Series this year, continuing their streak which started in 2010. Key acquisitions of Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija have strengthened the Giants’ rotation and an already powerful lineup are why I chose the Giants as number three in my power rankings.
  1. Boston Red Sox – Riding a 29-game hitting streak by Jackie Bradley Jr., the Red Sox are number two on my power rankings. The Red Sox offense never seems to have the night off, averaging almost six runs per game. The Red Sox acquired ace David Price in the off season from Toronto, and he has dominated ever since. The Red Sox have a strong chance to go deep into the playoffs this season.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta works during the second inning against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Cubs won, 9-8. (Laurie Skrivan/St. Louis Post-Dispatch/TNS)

  1. Chicago Cubs – While the Cubs have jumped out to a quick start leading the MLB with the best record, I will wait until later in the season to make my prediction for the Cubs in the postseason. They are at the top of my power rankings because of their dominant pitching from Jake Arrieta, who hasn’t lost a game in 23 starts. It’s not just their pitching that has them boasting the best record in baseball; the Cubs have a lineup that is relentless from top to bottom that has pitchers not wanting to face them.
