“Throne of Glass” is the first book in the ongoing “Throne of Glass” series by Sarah J Maas. This series, as well as Maas’s “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, is a part of the young adult fantasy genre. It includes romance throughout the series as well.
In this novel, the main character is an assassin. She is not just any assassin, but the best assassin on the continent of Erilea (that is pronounced Err-rel-yah if you were wondering). Erilea has been almost completely taken over by one of the smaller kingdoms on the continent, Adarlan.
The main character, Celaena Sardothian, has been in the Endovier Salt Mines for over a year when the book begins. She is brought to the Glass Castle to compete in a competition to become the King’s Champion. Celaena has to compete against 23 other assassins and thieves from all across Erilea.
As the competition progresses, competitors are murdered by something in the castle. Celaena eventually is not only fighting for her freedom, but also her life.
Throne of Glass is one of those books that you find yourself reading at 3 a.m. because you cannot put it down. There is non-stop action throughout the book and romance as well.
The second book, “Crown of Midnight,” builds off the ending of “Throne of Glass,” and it takes the series in a completely different direction. Maas is known for her plot-twists, which are found throughout the series.
Fans of Maas will definitely love the “Throne of Glass” series. Fans of young adult fantasy and romance may also enjoy Throne of Glass. The way this series is written will connect you to the characters, as well as have you wanting more.
The final installment of the Throne of Glass series comes out in Sep. 2018.
