The Huntley High School Fine Arts Boosters (FAB) held its annual Winter Variety Show on Jan. 29, 2012. The show was organized by Ann Knipp, who is the treasurer of FAB.

Students from both Huntley High School and District 158’s two middle schools auditioned to perform with 27 acts making it through to Sunday afternoon’s show.

“I think it’s great because it shows you how much talent is out there in the community,” said senior Brandon Bencko, who co-emceed act one with fellow senior Marta Makowski.

One of the performances highlighting the first act was a 47-song medley by juniors Chris Aceron, Tyler Darnell, and Diana Pacyga. At the end of the medley, the group asked the crowd to guess how many songs were played, which resulted in a young boy going home with one of their props.

“Chris showed me it online and said it’d be a great idea,” said Darnell. “We thought it was a good way to interact with the crowd.”

Also performing in the first act was junior Darrin Davis, who recently moved to Bristow, VA. Davis was a member of Project 2, a local musical group run by Huntley High School students.

“I wanted to come back to see my friends and have one more experience with Project 2,” said Davis, who is starting his own branch of Project 2 in his new high school.

The second act featured four performances from students who were in middle school, showing Huntley a glimpse of the future.

“I think that the younger actors and performers we have are definitely going to build a promising future here at Huntley,” said Bencko.

The show raised $1300 in proceeds, all of which go to the HHS Fine Arts Department, either for senior scholarships or possible equipment.
