Following pre-game “senior night” festivities, the Raiders (24-2) got off to a 5-0 run against the Eagles (19-8). Numerous turnovers were committed by both teams in the first half, with physical play on both sides of the ball.
Huntley found itself up by only four at the half, by a low score of 15-11.
During halftime, Huntley athletic director Bruce Blumer was honored for his retirement by all active Huntley coaches.
Barrington stepped up the physicality of their game in the third quarter, and pulled the game within one point, trailing 22-23 with 1:30 remaining in the quarter.
The Red Raiders barely held on to their lead in the fourth quarter, but pulled away in the final minute by making their final four free throws.
The game was broadcast on Comcast SportsNet at both noon and 6 p.m. Saturday.
The game saw a resurgence of Huntley’s fan section, Raider Nation, now led by juniors Trevor Obecny and Colin Lyman. Multiple new cheers and dances were implemented, giving the section one of its biggest turnouts of the year.
