Sunday, March 4, the varsity Poms team traveled downstate to compete with their hip-hop routine in the state competition. They placed sixth out of the ten teams in their division and are proud of their improvement since last year.

“Since the beginning, each year we have gotten better,” said Taylor Kent, co-captain, “and I am very proud of my team for it.”

Saturday night, the girls celebrated with the rest of the teams at  a huge tropical paradise themed dance party. There was a video montage of footage from the best of the season, and non-dance related awards were given to multiple nominated teams, including the Eisenhower team that Huntley nominated for good sportsmanship.

“They danced the night away,” said Chrissy Amling, head coach.

The girls rolled out for bed at four in the morning to prepare for their eight o’clock time slot. They spent their morning getting their hair and makeup done, warming up, and preparing to make the most of their last performance.

“Performing so early in the morning is very tough to do,” said Amling. “To do hip hop or any style of dance you have to really get into character.”

Before the girls stepped onto the dance floor, they gathered together attempting to ease their nerves with fellowship. They had worked hard for it and told each other to just give it their all. They prayed, and they chanted, “I believe that we will win. I believe that we will win. I believe that we will win.”

The performance went very well for the team. Even a past Huntley poms captain saw their performance and told her that they truly were “amazing.”

“It was a very exciting time for the whole team,” said Amling. “I am just glad that I got to be a part of it.”
