Every so often, people notice that their class may have two teachers in them, or maybe even three. If you happen to be in a class with two or more teachers, you’ve hit the jackpot. Co-teachers are some of the most helpful staff at this school, they can help students with questions about their work, quizzes, or tests if the teacher isn’t available. They also help students who may need more help than other students.
Ms. Easley is a great example of a co-teacher. She helps all the students that are in her classes, but specifically, she helps students with special needs.
“I always loved working with special ed students, so that kind of pushed me into the role that I’m in now. You work with a lot of really awesome students, and you learn a lot from them. And it’s a role where you can really make an impact,” Easley said.
If social studies is a course that you tend to struggle with, Ms. Easley is there to help!
“Before I became a special education teacher, I was a social studies teacher for five years. I taught social history, US history, and modern world conflicts,” Easley said.
Social studies overall is a course that some people can have a hard time learning, so it’s great to see that there is such an experienced teacher there to help you alongside your main teacher, who is also experienced.
“Co-teachers make it easier for kids to understand what they’re learning because they’re able to help more people who might not understand,” junior Nathan Kutrubis said.
Not only are co-teachers there to help and support students who need it, but they are also there to help and support their fellow teachers.
“So not only am I helping the students that have special needs or need extra support, but I am also extra support for the teacher so it’s not just one teacher going around helping 32 kids,” Easley said.
Extra support for teachers is just as important as extra support for students. It helps them be able to help their students without it being too time-consuming.
“Having two teachers in the class allows us to give more attention to every single student, it allows us to meet the needs of every student more efficiently,” teacher Ms. St. Clair said.
Ms. Easley demonstrates the impact co-teachers have on classrooms everyday, which is an amazing thing for students.
