Ella Doughty, a senior at Huntley, is deeply involved with the French Honor Society, showcasing her dedication to the language. Her four years in this club showed her leadership and determination. She earned the role of president, highlighting her ability to lead this club.
“I became president at the beginning of my senior year,” Doughty said. “The president/founder from last year, Annie Renghini, held voting at the end of last year, and I prepared a speech about what I planned to do with the club, and I was voted to be president.”
She has worked extremely hard to earn this role, and to be voted by students and staff has shown her commitment and dedication to the club.
The society fosters a community for French students, offering chances for volunteer work, socializing, and a trip to Paris. Doughty plays a key role in the society’s activities, demonstrating her leadership. She aims to create a dynamic environment where members can improve language skills and embrace French culture.
“French Honor Society is an organization for students taking French to join to learn more about the French language and culture and find a community of individuals with the same interest,” Doughty said. “We do volunteer work and bonding activities, and also a trip to Paris over spring break.”
Students with the same interest are able to come together and share their love for the language. This does not only help students learn more about French culture but allows for social activities and helps students engage with one another.
Lauren Veugler is the vice president of the French honors society, which gives her a close relationship with Ella. They work together to make sure everything runs smoothly.
“I have experience assisting Ella, the president. I add onto her lectures during the meetings, help plan meetings, and act as a bridge between students and her,” Vegugeler said.
Veugler has been a huge help to the French community and is just as involved with this club. She has learned so much from Doughty and continues to work with her to make students feel seen and heard.
Doughty’s hard work and leadership skills not only show the students in class but also to the adviser, Zhanina Kostova. She has seen a lot of growth in Doughty and all of her capabilities of wanting to help others grow.
“Ella is an approachable and very reliable president who truly leads by example,” Kostova said. “Three words that best describe her are approachable, reliable, and organized.”
Kostova’s perspective on Doughty is truly insightful. She has witnessed her growth and unwavering dedication to this club. She recognizes Doughty’s ability to inspire others and believes the characteristics she has will take her far beyond the classroom.
Doughty’s dedication and leadership skills are truly inspiring. Her ability to connect with others and her commitment to follow through, and make a remarkable leader. It is clear that she is not only making a positive impact on students but also fostering a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
