BINI is a Filipino pop group from the Philippines. The group is made up of eight members: Colet, Sheena, Aiah, Stacey, Jhoanna, Mikha, Maloi, and Gwen. They were formed in 2019 by ABS-CBN, a popular entertainment company from the Philippines. The name BINI is from the Tagalog word ‘binibini’, translated to young lady; they represent sweet and independent. Their fandom name is called BLOOMS. BINI debuted on June 11, 2021, with their debut single “Born to Win” under ABS-CBN’s Star Music, mixing Tagalog and English in their music. BINI is famously known as “the nation’s girl group” in the Philippines. Their most popular song is “Pantropiko.” The song “Pantropiko” became a viral dance challenge on the social media platform TikTok and became a popular summer song in the Philippines in 2023.
In 2024, the girl group BINI became the first Filipino act to perform at the most popular K-pop fan festival, KCON, in Los Angeles at Crypto.com Arena with their popular single “Cherry on Top”.
More recently, BINI made history as the first Filipino act to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
On Weekend One of Coachella, the girl group’s fans waved the Filipino flag in the crowd. BINI greeted their fans with a friendly Filipino welcome.
“Mabuhay,” they said before performing their first song.
They wore gold outfits along with a turquoise top. They opened their performance with their energetic song “Shagidi” from their “FLAMES” album. The setlist also included songs such as “Zero Pressure,” “Blush,” and “Cherry on Top.”
On weekend two of Coachella, BINI members introduced themselves in their own native languages.
“[We are] all the way from the Philippines,” they said before performing on Weekend Two.
The members wore colorful metallic outfits for weekend two. As they ended their first Coachella performance at the Mojave Stage at Coachella on April 17, they proudly ended weekend two performing their song called “Pantropiko” with the Philippines flag behind them on the LED screen.
Overall, the band BINI has set a precedent for future Filipino musicians to perform their music at Coachella.
