Current Assistant Athletic Director, math teacher, and varsity volleyball coach Michelle Jakubowski will begin her new job as Athletic Director on July 2.
Current Athletic Director Bruce Blumer announced his retirement earlier this year after 38 years in education. Jakubowski worked along with Blumer as Assistant Athletic Director for the past three years.
“When I first started out teaching, I was never really working towards becoming an Athletic Director,” said Jakubowski. “But, after my experience as Assistant Athletic Director, this is a great new opportunity for me.”
Even though Jakubowski is excited for her new opportunity, she will have to leave behind coaching and teaching to focus completely on being the new Athletic Director.
“I have held many different positions at different schools,” said Jakubowski. “Athletic Director is another position I am excited to begin.”
Jakubowski, although originally coming to Huntley as a teacher and a coach, was previously a Dean of Students at Lake Zurich High School.
Jakubowski does not plan to change much in the department; she would like to increase the leadership skills of the athletes at Huntley High School.
“I would like to start a student athlete leadership team,” said Jakubowski.
Even though Jakubowski will miss coaching volleyball and teaching math, she can not wait to start her new position as Athletic Director at Huntley High School
