UPDATE: The Sunday show will run on schedule. The Saturday show was cancelled due to a bomb threat.
This weekend, the Huntley High School Performing Arts will showcase their fall play called “Almost, Maine.” The show dates are Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., and Sunday Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $5 online and $6 at the door.
Students are performing a modern romantic comedy by John Cariani that takes place in the remote, fictional town of Almost, Maine. The play focuses on the residents of the town and how they fall in love in unexpected and hilarious ways.
There are about nine little love stories that all happen at the same time in the same place.
“Almost, Maine” is the theater program’s fall play and has been raved about by the cast and director as an overall success.
“We definitely had some bumps along the road, but that’s with any show,” said acting and main director Kate Duchene, “But overall, this was probably one of the smoothest shows I have done.”
Part of that is because there is only two or three people per scene. Meaning there only had to be a certain amount of people at practice in that given time.
“It’s really interesting; the show is not built like other shows I’ve been in,” said sophomore Spencer Bingham, playing the role of Pete. “The cast is all really close and we’re covering a lot of really emotional things.”
The cast knows their parts very well, which makes the show much more interesting, according to Bingham.
“The cast is really fun and we do a lot of quirky things,” said junior Kora Rea, who has the role of Janette.
Duchene also predicts that the upcoming shows this weekend will go well and could go even better with a big crowd. There is humor, and as Duchene puts it, “laughter is contagious.” A big crowd is what they are hoping for.
This is definitely a unique show with laughter and a share of heartfelt moments.
“The show has come together really nicely and we are really proud,” said Duchene.
