South Park airs its third episode called “The Cissy,” and it is not at all what I expected.
The episode begins with Cartman being more creepy and menacing than usual. He uses his inner monologue to refer to the mysterious object in his front pocket that he will use to “do what I should have done a long time ago.”
The mystery object turns out to be a pink bow that Cartman uses to pretend to be transgender, or “transginger” as Cartman calls it, in order to use the girls’ bathroom.
However, the dumps that Cartman has been taking in the girls’ bathroom are unbearable, and the girls want him out. This causes Principal Victoria to approve a special transgender bathroom made especially for Cartman.
Cartman is thrilled, of course, until Wendy decides to get Cartman back by showing up to school as Wendyl and claiming her right to use the transgender bathroom.
In a subplot, a reporter shows up in South Park to investigate a Lorde conspiracy. The Lorde storyline is yet another continuation from last week’s episode. “More continuity!” This is simply amazing.
This episode was clever and genuinely funny, although I have to admit I was nervous when I heard the topic. I was glad to find the episode shed light upon the problem transgender people face (in a typical South Park, of course) rather than bashing on them.
Overall, this episode was a good one and I am eagerly awaiting next week’s. I’m hoping for more continuity in the next episode because I really want to find out the details of Butters’ suspension.
Grade: B
Best quotation:
Principal Victoria: “So, Eric Cartman just has us in some kind of bathroom checkmate?”
Mr. Garrison: “Actually…it’s more like a royal flush.”
Best character: Randy – or should I say Lorde?
Funniest moment: When Randy is stashing away large stacks of cash in the wall in his garage. Breaking Bad parody, anyone?
