Winter Weather Warning: First Winter Storm expected Thursday, Blizzard-like conditions possible

[box type=”warning” ]UPDATE (12/20 9:50am): WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT[/box]

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for McHenry County in advance of Thursday’s storm. They are predicting 4-6 inches of snow Thursday night with high winds, which could produce dangerous driving conditions.

This is the first substantial snow of the season.

“THE COMBINATION OF THE SNOW AND VERY STRONG WINDS WILL RESULT IN GREATLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND POSSIBLY NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL CAUSE ROADS TO BECOME SNOW COVERED AND TRAVEL TREACHEROUS,” according to the National Weather Service.

A reminder that parking of any vehicle on any public street in the Village of Huntley within eight (8) hours after a snowfall of two (2) inches is also prohibited and violators will be subject to towing at their expense.

Remember to leave early for school, not drive in a hurry and make sure there is plenty of gas in your car. Stay with The Voice’s Traffic Center for the latest on this storm and how it effects the roads of Huntley.
