Boys Basketball blows out McHenry High School at home

By Alex Hartleb

Senior Uchenna Egekeze strips the ball away from the opposing player and starts to dribble up the court. He gets to the lane and hops up, slamming it through the net with a one-handed dunk as the crowd bursts into cheers.

This was one of many amazing plays during Huntley’s 60-34 point win over McHenry at their first home game of the season. Huntley was able to come out last night after more recently facing a two-game losing streak and secure the win.

“We had a good film session on Monday and we talked about going back to doing the little things right. We had two really good practices and I think we expected to come out and play well tonight,” Huntley coach Will Benson said.

They certainly did play well and were led by senior Ryan Sroka with 14 points, Uchenna Egekeze with 13 points, and senior Luke DiFrancesca with 12 points. The team was able to come out with some big defensive stops, which resulted in a lot of points early on and a 24-8 lead after the first quarter.

“I thought we shared the ball pretty well and our intensity in sports was pretty good. We had really balanced scoring. I thought we played unselfish offensively which is always nice to say,” Benson said.

Huntley continued this dominant style of play during the rest of the half and into the third quarter, leading 36-20 at the half and 57-27 at the end of the third. The team seemed really determined to win and were overall able to perform at a high level.

“I felt like this was a good bounce back after coming out of our two-game losing streak this past week,” Egekeze said

The win last night pushes Huntley to a 4-2  record and 1-1 in conference play. Make sure to go and support the boys basketball team in their next away game Saturday against Crystal Lake South at 1:30.
