Huntley boys varsity baseball in our first game of the year came out with a barrage of hits in the first inning. With this game the team moves to 1-0 and prepares for games this weekend.

Huntley started the game off very well after not allowing any runs in the top of the first; they put up five runs with three of them coming from a home run from senior Ryan Kelly who batted 5th that day.

In the second inning both Huntley and Belvidere North had a few good hits and scored making it 7-1. Late in the game junior Ryan Quinlan hit the second home run of the game for Huntley and capped off a great day on the field for him. He was the only player in the game for Huntley that got on base every time he went up to bat which is very impressive.

“We wanted to come out with a win.” Quinlan said.

This game was led by head coach Andy Jakubowski.

“It’s not about where you start, it’s about where you finish.” Jakubowski said.

He is looking forward to the rest of the season with this team and hopes that day in and day out his team will keep improving and be the very best that they can be. His goal for the game was to get senior Adam Guazzo’s pitch count up. He was the starting pitcher for Huntley and Coach Jakubowski was trying to get his pitch count up where it ended at around 50 pitches for him. In general tried to get a lot of opportunities for players and get them ready for this weekend and the following week.

Some other notable mentions were Brandon Hanley who had two singles on the day and Nicholas Martino who did the majority of the base running for the team. The final score of the game was 9 – 4. Huntley is expected to do great things this year and they are excited to move past this game and keep winning against different teams.
