Hannah Andre, a senior and fourth-year member of the Color Guard team, recently opened up about her journey and responsibilities as this year’s captain. She highlights the importance of experience and leadership in the role.
“You need experience, so they don’t let someone with less than two years be captain,” Andre said. “It takes a lot of skill and leadership qualifications, including going through an interview and audition process.”
Andre runs the group through the typical schedule of the Color Guard team, as practices generally last about three hours and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., and Wednesdays from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m.
“We usually start with a stretching block, and then we get into our basics and warm-ups before moving into choreography,” Andre said.
As captain, Andre plays a crucial role in keeping the team focused, especially when the coach is not present.
“I lead most of the exercises that we do, like the stretching block,” Andre said. “I also help out anyone who needs it and give critiques.”
It’s very important as their coach is managing multiple things at one time. Andre is the one to start practice and keep everyone in line. The practices are necessary because there are only so many before performances. Andre is always on top of what she does and uses the time the team has together to help them be the best they can.
Andre’s favorite part of being in the Color Guard is the thrill of performing.
“I love performing and hearing all the cheering from the audience,” Andre said.
Her passion for the sport shines through as she balances leadership qualities with the joy of being part of the team.
For those wondering what Color Guard is, Hannah’s experience and dedication paint a clear picture: it’s an activity that combines skill and teamwork for those who perform choreographed dances and routines with various equipment, such as flags and rifles. These wonderful participants are able to showcase amazing talents and provide entertainment for everyone.
Violet Heider is a member of the Color Guard who looks up to Andre as their captain. She believes Andre has a major impact on the team due to her dedication and positive attitude. Heider notices how much Andre does for the members in Color Guard and how she is always there to support them.
“Hannah puts in a lot of effort, like making detailed videos for everyone to practice with, and is always helping everyone understand their routines,” Heider said.
Andre’s passion for Color Guard inspires her teammates to be the best they can and keep growing as members of Color Guard.
Andre is an inspiration to many other Color Guard participants. Not only does she lead the entire Color Guard team, but she also serves as a role model for our school and the people in the community. Her commitment motivates others to push their limits and believe in the power of hard work, dedication, and, most importantly, success.
