On Saturday, Sept. 28, the streets of Huntley Village Square were filled with families, students, and community members eager to celebrate the Homecoming Parade.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, cheers, and music as the floats rolled by. The weather was almost perfect. It was warm but not too overwhelmingly hot, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the parade.
Parents lined the sidewalks as kids ran around, scrambling to grab as much candy as possible. The parade kicked off with the marching band playing the school’s iconic song, their performance blowing everyone away.
Floats representing the school’s clubs and activities showcased creativity and spirit. The PUBS float stood out with colorful decorations and even featured a student in a giant inflatable parrot costume.
Raider Nation kept the energy high, their cheers echoing down the streets. Expressed their appreciation for them amongst each other for keeping their kids so excited. Meanwhile, the Zoology Club earned many people’s attention as students walked past holding snakes, impressing and scaring both kids and adults with their bold display.
“I really didn’t want to get up early this morning, but honestly, it was worth it,” senior Siobahn Walker said. “I enjoyed seeing all of the floats and coming out to support everyone.”
Walker reflected the enthusiasm many others felt about the event.
Parents agreed that the parade was more than just a school event. Instead, it was a chance for the community to come together.
“The kids were amazing and the energy was through the roof,” parent and attendee Simran Khaira said.
From the candy to the music and costumes, there was always something exciting to look forward to as each group passed by. The event drew in such a large community that some families had to park blocks away.
“We had to park pretty far down the road because of traffic, but it was worth the walk,” parent and attendee Dolly Patel said. “The whole walk back we were talking about the groups that passed by, especially the group with the snakes.”
After the parade ended, the celebration did not stop. Families lingered, chatting with one another, and Huntley kids compared how much candy they got.
The event not only showcased Huntley High School’s spirit but was also a reminder of the strong sense of unity and pride within the community. This year’s Homecoming Parade was not just a display of school pride, but it was a moment where Huntley came together, laughed together, and celebrated together as one big community.
