After four consecutive wins, Huntley has been abuzz with excitement about playing Cary Grove in the CN100 Game of the Week.  However, the Red Raiders could not best the Trojans, losing 41-14.

The game went downhill quickly for Huntley.  The Raiders fumbled three times in the first quarter and Cary Grove scored two touchdowns, putting Huntley behind 14-0 after the first quarter.

The game did not look any better in the second quarter.  Another fumble and a failed fourth down conversion left the Raider offense unable to score.  Cary Grove’s Zach Marszal put two more touchdowns on the board with an interception return and a rushing touchdown.

“We just made too many mistakes,” said Coach John Hart.  “That’s it.”

Huntley finally scored with two minutes left in the second quarter when quarterback Kameron Sallee connected with wide receiver Jake Lackovic for a touchdown.  Despite signs of life from the Raider offense, Cary Grove led 27-7 at the half.

Cary Grove fullback Kyle Norberg broke a touchdown run to begin the second half and put up the only points of the third quarter.

Norberg had an interception in the fourth quarter and after another interception by Marszal, scored another rushing touchdown.  Huntley running back Jake Scalise caught a pass from Salee with just under three minutes in the game for Huntley’s second touchdown.  Cary Grove quarterback Quinn Baker then kneeled to end the game with a final score of 41-14 in favor of Cary Grove.

“We just didn’t execute well,” said running back Ethan Connor.  “We can’t make so many mistakes this far into the season.”

This loss may be disappointing, but Huntley should not be discouraged.  Cary Grove came into this game ranked sixth in Class 7A and allowed only 72 points in their past six games.  If Huntley wins their next two games, they still can make the playoffs.

This game will be broadcasted on CN100 on Sunday, Oct. 7 at noon and 4:00 p.m.
