It’s not about “me” for Ali Andrews.
Huntley’s 6-foot, 3-inch freshman didn’t have much to say about herself after a 20-point performance on Tuesday night in McHenry.
“Everyone took a step up, Haley Ream, Kayla [Baretto], they hit their shots outside.”
When asked about her offensive dynamic on the team, Andrews jumped right back to her team-first mindset.
“I have to work on my defense still,” she said. “Everybody just picked it up on defense.”
Huntley head coach Steve Raethz, however, praised her as one of the cornerstones on his well-balanced team.
“She had a really solid game for us,” Raethz said. “[She] came up with some blocks on the defensive end, and offensively I thought she was really active. She did a nice job for us on the glass as well.”
Andrews, whose efforts lead to a double-double, was supported by four other starters who chalked up more than five points each to help Huntley (1-0 Fox Valley Conference, 7-2 overall) topple McHenry (0-1, 3-3) by a score of 66-31. As seen in their first FVC match-up of the season, the Raiders have built a strong offense on their traditional, stalwart defense.
“It was a world of difference offensively,” Raethz said. “We had five offensive-minded players on the floor, and all five really stepped up at any given time.”
The Raiders’ offense, which is averaging 52 points per game, nailed a barrage of treys en route to its blowout victory against the Warriors.
“We talked a lot about our perimeter being more offensive-minded and being able to step up and knock down shots,” Raethz said.
Huntley’s offense looks to maintain its quick pace at Prairie Ridge (0-0, 6-1) on Friday.
