The Huntley boys basketball team defeated Fox Valley Conference archrival Jacobs 46-39 on Friday night. Huntley senior Jake Wagner led the Red Raider’s winning effort with 15 points, nine of which came in the second half.
Huntley led at the end of the first quarter, but watched its lead get squandered by poor ball handling, eventually heading into the half tied 19-19.
Coming out at the half, the Red Raiders committed many of the same errors, but managed to outscore the Golden Eagles, giving themselves a narrow 33-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Wagner then made several key shots in the quarter, for six total points, despite several hard fouls by Jacobs players. With a 10 point lead and only 2:25 left in the game, senior point guard TJ Adams started clock control, closing the game while dominating possession.
“We did a really bad job protecting the ball for most of the game,” said Adams. “I put a lot of that blame on myself and I tried to get better and will continue to try to get better.”
Huntley will play its next game at Fremd on Tuesday before heading to Crystal Lake Central on Friday for another conference matchup.
