Disney’s recent release “Strange World” proves to be a movie for the family

By Zoe Hurmi

Nothing beats walking into the theater over holiday break to sit down and watch an hour and 45 minutes of a feel-good family movie with the people you love. Disney’s “Strange World” was released as Disney’s usual Thanksgiving Movie release. Disney has released plenty of movies at this time that succeeded at the box office, like “Moana.”

“Strange World” is about an adventurer father who leaves his farmer son to continue his adventure. This leaves his son to start his life with his wife and son as farmers. This is until the plant that they grow starts dying and they have to find out what is going on to save their home.

The movie’s main character Searcher Clade, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, struggles with his relationship with his father, Jaeger Clade, played by Dennis Quaid. Trying not to become his dad or his son, Ethan Clade, played by Jaboukie Young-White, becomes his father and leaves Searcher.

The movie “Strange World” has the main character, Gyllenhaal, voiced by someone who the internet is not too happy with, but with all that aside the portal by all the actors is amazing. Disney even has an openly gay character which is a huge step for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Director, Don Hall, has plenty of amazing stories that he is known for like “Meet the Robinsons” (2007), “Big Hero 6” (2014), “Moana” (2016), and “Raya and the Last Dragon” (2021). Hall did prove that “Strange World” should be able to sit next to these amazing movies. The movie is not like Hall’s usual movies where you are bawling your eyes out, but instead of tears, you get a warm-fuzzy feeling.

“Strange World” was animated and directed phenomenally. There was never a dull moment on screen. The screenplay had you looking at the characters on the screen and seeing yourself in the characters. The movie was a genuine feel-good family movie. The movie was not the best Disney movie ever, but if it comes on, you should sit down with your family and enjoy it.
