Limeade, blueberry cheesecake, chilled sugar, and Sour Patch Kid. For $10.48, you can get four cookies the size of your hand at Algonquin’s latest baking craze; on Nov. 17, 2022, Crumbl Cookie finally opened their doors at 535 County Line Road, right in the heart of the Algonquin Commons.

Crumbl Cookie is a young company. In 2017, it was founded by Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley in Logan, Utah. The Algonquin location is owned by three local families: the Lamberts, Bowens, and Stuckis. The company has grown rapidly since then, with over 600 stores opening in over 47 states across America.

But the growth of its stores is no match for the growth of their social media presence. In mere months, @crumblcookies on TikTok has amassed a huge 6.3 million user following. Featuring high-quality, slow-motion videos of the cookie-making process, Crumbl’s account draws a cult-like following.

“I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW,” user @il0vecrumblcookies comments under a video of the Waffle Caramel Shortbread cookie being made.

Among many online enthusiasts, Huntley senior Hadley Gaszynski considers herself a longtime fan. She says she made the 40-minute drive to the Schaumburg location around once a week.

“They’re just so good, and having the new store so close to home is amazing, because now I can go more often,” Gaszynski says.

One of the major draws of Crumbl is its rotating flavor list. Every week, new flavors are announced and sold, except for the two classics: milk chocolate chip and chilled pink sugar. This weekly rotation was solidified in December 2018 and secured Crumbl’s spot as a trendy new dessert vendor.

One of the best parts of Crumbl is how it can bring everyone together. Regardless of age and preference, there’s a cookie for everyone.

“No matter how busy, we work fast to try to get you your cookies in minutes. We see all ages all the time. A lot of families come in with kids, young couples, and elderly couples,” said Crumbl employee and HHS senior Kaden Bucholz.

In the past month, Crumbl has seen great success in the Algonquin area, and is seeming to become a long-time fixture in the McHenry area. Citizens are leaving fantastic reviews online.

“Cookies are good. Very large! One cookie is enough for 3 people. My favorite was the milk chocolate chip,” said Kathy N from Algonquin on Yelp.com.
