As the smoke clears, a cage of men stand motionless. A beat drops and they all jump up onto the bars of the cage to perform pullups as rhythmic pulses of beats play alongside flashing red lights. The group of men clear to unveil the star of the show, Dukagjin Lipa, better known as Dua Lipa. The performance is intense and intricate with dancers climbing all around the cage.

At the 2024 Grammys, Dua Lipa first performed her newest single, “Training season,” raking up sensational reviews. The four-minute performance left the audience of other music stars in applause.

With the first tease of the song on Jan. 22, with Dua Lipa wearing a hoodie with the words “Training Season” on it, the speculation began about the song, its potential meaning, and its release date. The anticipation for this song was long but worth it when it became public. It was released on Feb. 15, in perfect time for Valentine’s Day. Along with the release of the song came a music video, acapella version, and extended version.

The 28-year-old pop star is notorious for her other hit songs like “Levitating” and “One Kiss,” leaving her a reputation as a music artist and a self-proclaimed feminist. Her music is known for its messages of woman’s positivity and self-love.

“Training Season,” apart from being extremely catchy, is an amazing piece of music that also delivers an empowering message on boundaries in relationships. Throughout the song, Dua Lipa expresses her desire to be with somebody who can be there for her emotionally and relate to her spiritually. The song was inspired after a streak of bad dates which left Dua Lipa disappointed and done with men who can not handle commitment. Dua Lipa is a different woman with the song’s debut.

It may not be her most popular song, but it’s a hit with it being number two on Spotify’s Top Hits Playlist the day of its release.
