Parker DeSimone is a dedicated senior who is interested in TV production. It is now his fourth year being enrolled in the class.
For those who don’t know, TV Production is a class where students make news packages, get hands-on experience with cameras, learn how to conduct interviews, anchor episodes, and learn how to become a strong editor. DeSimone is the Raider Nation News Production Manager.
His role is just as crucial as being a teacher. He gets to shadow and overcast all of the crew members to make sure they are on track with their projects and news packages.
“Parker is always coming up with creative ideas and is willing to help students, which has made our program bloom a significant amount,” Raider Nation News advisor Lauren Teeter said. “He was the anchor for the newscast that earned the crystal pillar through the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. ”
DeSimone’s passion to work his hardest shows inside and outside of class. His personality shines through to everyone he surrounds himself with.
Raider Nation News Manager Kaylee Coleman shares the experience she has had with DeSimone through their years of TV Production together.
“Parker and I get along very well because he is always determined to get his work done and help with anything, such as silent film or news packages,” Coleman said. “He is always there to support others in the classroom and is easy to get along with.”
What initially captivated him about the field was the behind-the-scenes work. The way the crew has been able to edit and piece together footage inspires him. Those details and moments during TV production left a strong impression on him, fueling his passion.
A significant part of his experience involves working on short story projects where he can apply his creativity. He also values collaboration and understands that a reliable, skilled crew not only improves the quality of the work but also makes the process more enjoyable.
“Having helpful people makes filming more easier and fun,” DeSimone said.
For him, collaboration is super important. Through his involvement with MMEA, DeSimone has developed a strong interest in the technical aspects of TV Production, particularly the equipment. He is eager to deepen his knowledge of the different camera work used in class.
“I enjoy learning about different cameras, microphones, audio devices, and how each one makes the video better,” DeSimone said. He values all the opportunities he gets and the new things he learns each day.
TV Production has improved DeSimone’s physical ability to work with a variety of equipment.
“Being able to get hands-on experience with a camera is super helpful and fun,” DeSimone said. This class provides newer and better equipment that has taught him so much about the field of journalism and photography.
Overall, Parker’s journey in TV production shows his mix of creativity, interests in technology, and love for working with others. These experiences will help him as he pursues his future goals of becoming a photographer.
