Boys bowling rolls over Woodstock

Huntley’s top six narrowly defeated Woodstock (M. Krebs).

Huntley’s boys bowling team won Wednesday, January 9, 2774-2537.

Huntley, which had been on a large skid for the past few weeks, has rebounded in the last few days with some solid performances throughout the varsity team.

“This is the best we’ve bowled in a while,” said Brian O’Neill, head coach. “Definitely the best since our last win.”

Huntley managed to top Woodstock in a closely contested match. With Huntley’s top six bowling solid games, they managed to narrowly defeat Woodstock.

“We definitely are starting to gain some momentum,” said O’Neill.

With a poor season nearly in the books, O’Neill and the boys have had little to celebrate. With numerous losses and only a handful of wins to show for the past few months, the season has not exactly gone as expected.

“We haven’t really done that well this season,” said O’Neill. “But we’re moving forward.”

The team still has a lot to look forward to because of the way the IHSA runs the playoff system. Huntley’s poor record does not necessarily discount them from getting into the postseason.

“We can still get to state if we do well in the sectional competition coming up,” said O’Neill. “But it’s tough because only the top two teams from each sectional can get to move on.

Huntley could also potentially have individual bowlers, if they place within the top two, move on as well. Since each bowling meet takes the total pins from each bowler and drops some of the lowest scores, if Huntley could keep up their individual performances, they could sneak past some other teams in their sectional.

“We averaged a little over 200 points a bowler,” said O’Neill. “If we can get that up a little, we can do pretty well. We had 2700 points today, but we’ll need 3100 to really have a shot.”

Huntley took down Woodstock and has one more match-up before sectionals. Sectionals is the final meet of their season, pending their performance
