The movie “Happy Death Day” takes place on Theresa’s, or Tree which is what she is called by her best friends, birthday while she is at college. Kind of like “Groundhog Day” the basic plot of this movie is based on a day that keeps recurring until Theresa can find, and kill, the person who continues to murder her.
Theresa throughout the majority of the movie is painfully oblivious, which is why this movie is an hour and half long. So it was so painful to watch her literally miss the answer to all of her problems, over and over again. It was like the Geico commercial where they make fun of the bad choices the characters seem to make in horror movies.
This movie was humorous which took some of the pain away. Theresa and her sorority sisters are the typical ‘basic’ white girls, so the characters did not really add anything to the movie.
At the movie theatre, there seemed to be a rather young audience, as in 12-16 year olds, and from what I heard when exiting, some found it enjoyable and even scary. Which is some what understandable since the movie had a modern sense of humor.
Theresa, is not the nicest person so it was hard to root for her when she deserves some of the bad things that come to her.
The movie overall was a bust. IMDB gave it 6.6 out of 10 stars and I thought that was being generous. The scariest part of this whole movie, in my opinion was the idea of being stuck in a time warp that is somewhat inescapable. This is a good movie for when you want to have a night in with friends, but if you want a thriller look the other way.
