“First” by the indie rock band, Cold War Kids, was the second single on their fifth album “Hold My Home,” released on Feb. 15, 2015. “First” peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The song stayed on the chart for 28 consecutive weeks, their longest charting single. The music video, released on Jan. 12, 2015 has been viewed 3.5 million times. The music video follows a couple who clearly has a lot of problems. The lyrics are relatively easy to follow. Cold War Kids beautifully shows how one bad experience can have on people, causing paranoia and anxiety for future relationships. Listeners also get the sense that love is a repetitive thing, the same cycle over and over again. Every relationship starts with a “First.”
