This year, Huntley High School has become enamored with rec league basketball. The Trees, Huntley High School's rec league champion, lost their only regular season game to Sal's Pizza, 64-47, in the final game of the regular season.
Huntley (10-15, 4-4 FVC) was riding a two-game winning streak into Friday night’s Senior Night match against the Golden Eagles of Jacobs. The teams last met on Jan. 23 at Jacobs, where the Golden Eagles defeated the Red Raiders 58-39. Huntley’s winning streak was broken, as Jacobs won 57-41.
Going into Friday night’s game against Jacobs, Huntley (7-12, 2-2 FVC) was riding a hot streak, winning four of their last six games and placing well at the Wheaton MLK tournament. Huntley’s hot streak came to an end Friday night, falling to Jacobs 58-3.
Seniors Blake Jacobs, Kyle Slonka, Riley Wicks, Amanze Egekeze, and Zack Gorney would all start their last high school game Tuesday night against the Auburn Knights. Entering the game with a 21-7 record, the Raiders had high hopes to continue in the State Tournament.
During the post game handshakes after Rockford Jefferson's win over Rockford East in the regional semifinals, a fight broke out. Players and fans came to blows as the tension between the two teams boiled over. The IHSA handed down swift punishment on the Rockford Jefferson players involved in the fight, suspending three starters, two bench players and Jefferson's head coach for the game against Huntley. A depleted Rockford Jefferson squad was outclassed by Huntley in every way falling 77-29 in a game that was never even close.
Huntley High School’s boys basketball team’s final game of the season was on Tuesday, Feb. 24 on the home court. The seniors finished strong, winning 55-28 over Crystal Lake South. Nine players on the 2013-2014 varsity basketball team are seniors and this was their last regular season game.
