“Poltergeist”: An Expected Disappointment

By Cierra Felton
May 28, 2015
I grab a fistful of popcorn and slowly eat it, piece by piece, until I can see my palm again. I pay close attention to the screen, waiting for something exciting to happen. Unfortunately, 'Poltergeist' failed to give me the enjoyment I craved. All of the thrilling scenes present in the trailer were the only decent scenes in the entire movie, most of which occurred in the first half hour. The film starts with the Bowen family moving into a new home. The daughter, Madi, suspiciously starts talking to her closet. Her parents assume she is just talking to her imaginary friends; unfortunately, they thought wrong. Later that week, the parents go out to a dinner party. While there, they find out some shocking news: their house was built over an old cemetery. While the parents are out, poltergeists attack the children, and capture Madi in the meantime. The remaining hour of the film is spent trying to get Madi back.

Hollywood Undead releases “Day of the Dead” that gets support from loyal fans

The hot summer air filled my lungs as I nervously read my upcoming 7th grade schedule. My friend and I sat in the itchy grass as we compared our schedules, hoping to have a class together. After a few minutes, she stood up and walked over to her iPod to change the song. My ears became more alert as they were stimulated with perfect harmonies and hilarious lyrics. This moment changed my music preferences forever. Hollywood Undead became my favorite band after only hearing one song. Hollywood Undead is a band that consists of members: Charlie Scene, Funny Man, Danny, J-Dog, Johnny 3 Tears, and Da Kurlzz. They are unique because they were masks and produce songs of several genres, such as pop, rock, rap, alternative, and even metal. Hollywood Undead’s fourth album “Day of the Dead” was released on Tuesday, March 31. Fans have been anticipating this album's release date since the single "Day of the Dead" was released on Oct. 21, 2014.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’ fails at pleasing high expectations

By Cierra Felton

Imagine a world filled with smart cars that drive themselves, vulgar game shows with no limits, and a hot tub that also functions as a time machine. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 was released on Feb. 20. Being a fan of Hot Tub Time Machine, I had high expectations for the sequel. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to the point where I considered walking out at some parts. Director Steve Pink should have stopped at the first movie. In the first movie, life long friends Lou, Nick, Adam, and his nephew Jacob, are accidentally sent back to the ‘80s. Realizing that the universe is giving him a chance to change his life, Lou uses his knowledge of the present to get rich. He eventually invents Lougle and becomes the main singer for Motley Lou.

Movie Review: Jessabelle

By Cierra Felton
November 13, 2014
[L]ionsgate releases yet another successful horror film directed by Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VII and Saw VI. Like the Saw movies, Jessabelle is sure to confuse you until the last 5 minutes of the movie. The majority of the movie keeps you guessing, and once you are sure you have it figured out, there is another twist added.

Lady Antebellum’s unaccustomed style proves to be successful: Review

By Cierra Felton
October 1, 2014
Lady Antebellum's new album 747 proves to be just as successful as their five previous albums. The album is already the number two on the top album for the Country Category on ITunes as of today. Each song tells a story with its compelling lyrics; whether it is about heartbreak, a night of fun, or falling in love, each song successfully describes an event that is easily relatable to.
