Despite the lengthy commute, long waiting time, and prices that lean more towards the expensive side, this restaurant is definitely the place to go for seafood lovers looking to spice up their friday night dinners with some flavors from the deep South.
Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, located about an hour away in Westmont, is a New Orleans-style restaurant that serves authentic Cajun cooking with a twist. The festiveness of Mardi Gras and Jazz music in the air makes you feel like you are actually in the French Quarter.
Given the high cost of the food, I would suggest not making Pappas your weekly family eat-out, unless you have the money for it. My family and I typically go for special occasions, when we feel like celebrating and having a good time.
And of course, Pappas is the perfect place for just that. The whole restaurant is like one big party, with friends having a few drinks at the bar and families clapping to the rhythm of the jazz quartet.
After we picked up our menus, I realized that we had been staring at it with confused looks on our faces for about 15 minutes. So naturally, I started looking around at other people’s food to see what looks the most appetizing before I decided on what to order. The only problem was that everything looked good.
The sun was starting to dip below Crystal Lake, painting the sky different hues of warm pinks and oranges. There was a warm breeze blowing through her dark curls, and romance was definitely in the air.

It was the end of our days of relaxation and freedom, so my dad decided to take me and my brother out to Sunday brunch at Burnt Toast. Our highly-anticipated long weekend ended in a high, delicious note.
The line, as expected on a Sunday afternoon, stretched past the front doors and into the parking lot. Which is why were shocked when we were told that our wait time was going to be half an hour at the most.
I did not believe it at first, but I soon started to realize that we had arrived at the perfect time. Everybody was wrapping up their meal and leaving the restaurant by the time we got our buzzer. It only took 20 minutes until our waitress sat in is a comfy booth right by the bar.
Being the avid sushi-eater that I am, I was thrilled when I heard that there was another sushi place that had recently opened up in the Algonquin area. Woow Sushi, along with Bistro Wasabi and @ Bangkok, had been added to my list of go-to restaurants when my sushi cravings hit.
I remember getting the menu and coupons in the mail for Woow Sushi’s grand opening specials. There were so many tasty-looking menu items to choose from, and they were all within a reasonable price range. I knew this was not a restaurant worth missing out on.
Walking in to the restaurant, I noticed how similar yet different the setting and ambiance were from Bistro Wasabi. The modern-style decor gave the restaurant a high-class, expensive look, but the soft lighting and comfortable chairs made everything seem more relaxed.
Despite the setting, I felt like I was at home, especially when our waitress came out wearing sweatpants and crocs. She started out by giving us a free order of edamame, and helped us out by suggesting the best menu items that had no beef or chicken.
The tenth anniversary of Dancing with the Stars kicked off its twentieth season with the usual introduction of the celebrity/dancer pairs, a rendition of the theme song from the jazz ensemble, and glittery ballroom setting.
The melodies of festive carols fill the air of stores and restaurants, the green and red lights twinkle underneath a white bed of snow, and the buzz of last minute shopping has never been more prevalent. The most wonderful time of the year was indeed here, and what better thing to do for Christmas, than to go grab some pizza?
The sound of the bell rings through the speakers, cuing the students to quickly flood the hallways and head to their next class.
[H]untley’s arsenal of restaurants is limited when it comes to the diversity of their food. With an abundance of pizza places and bars with grilled items, Huntley's edible ammunition is somewhat lacking.
But not to fear my hungry Huntley-sapiens. Bistro Wasabi, which lies on the same strip as Dairy Queen on West Algonquin Road, gives your taste buds a sweet and sour escape from your average pizza night-out.
Ever since it opened in 2000, Bistro Wasabi has offered customers with cooked and uncooked Japanese delicacies with a little American twist to it. Their menu offers items ranging from New York Steak to a chef’s special Maki Sushi.
[I]t’s not like it’s something we haven’t seen before. Four British lads with shaggy hair and raspy vocals wailing angsty, lovelorn verses over garage rock instrumentals.
But how long has it been since we’ve seen it? It seems that the reign of indie rock bands such as The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, and The Killers, has long been overthrown by the rise of trap and dubstep music.
[I]t was 8:30 p.m on a monday night, and my parents were running a little late from work. My brother and I were hungry and were willing to eat anything they brought home for us.
We were happy and relieved when we saw them come home with takeout boxes. At the time, we did not care where the food was coming from...until we looked inside the boxes.
My family is strictly vegetarian so going out to eat could sometimes be a bit challenging for us. We need to make sure to order menu items with no meat, and then double check once we get our meals.

[A] small table with three plates displaying the day’s specialties was the very first thing I noticed when I walked into this newly opened restaurant, located on Route 47. But what really caught my attention was the unique name of these specialties: Crab Bennies, Parfait Crepes, and the Classic Blueberry French Toast.
The fallen leaves crunch beneath her spikes as she pounds on the uneven terrain. The cheers and ringing cowbells from the spectators are drowned out by her heavy breathing and the shouting voices in her head, telling her she’s almost there and helping her to power through the last hill before the finish line.
It is a Friday night, and a place is buzzing with excitement and energy as students from Jacobs socialize with each other after a home football game. After filling their cups with thick and creamy yogurt, the customers make their way over to the toppings bar where they get to choose from a variety of toppings, ranging from fresh fruit to colorful gummy bears.
If you have not guessed by now, the place that I am talking about is Yogurtland that just opened up in Algonquin. Another yogurt place by the Commons? Trust me, this one is different, and possibly better than its froyo competitors.
Huntley’s girls varsity tennis team fell behind at this year’s Fox Valley Conference, which was hosted by Dundee Crown. The girls placed 12th out of 13 teams, with Jacobs placing first and winning the conference title.
“Last call for the 400 meter dash!" That’s her cue. Senior Tina Driscoll makes her way over to her designated lane and starts to warm up for the race that most girls on the team consider to be one of the hardest.

McHenry County College is holding its second annual Career Exploration Expo this Wed., March 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is located in the MCC Gym/Multi-purpose Room and Commons and is open to middle school students through sophomores, along with their families.
With a new year comes a new set of male role models for the student body
Yet, there is something different about today’s late start. The sound of a heavy bass, rapid guitar strumming, and piercing vocals, fill the hallways of Huntley High, along with the familiar hum of multiple conversations.
For those of you looking for a teen fantasy romance with a mythical setting with dazzling special effects, emotionally in-depth characters, vampire folklore mixed in with the average teenage life, and a suspenseful plot leading up to an intense climax… well I wish you good luck, because you definitely won’t be finding it here.
Some would argue that having half of the remaining Beatles perform together at the “Grammy’s Salute," which is being recording the day after the Awards, would be much better than the Grammy Awards itself. I am not ashamed to say that I am one of those people, and we would have a pretty heated debate if you thought otherwise.
